"The Key" is the twelfth episode of season eight of the zombie survival horror television series The Walking Dead, and the one-hundredth eleventh episode of the series overall. It was directed by Greg Nicotero with a script written by Corey Reed and Channing Powell. It first aired on AMC on Sunday, March 18th, 2018 at 9:00 pm. Rick Grimes sets out on a one-man mission to murder Negan once and for all. Meanwhile, Simon continues in his attempts to usurp power from Negan; Maggie Greene, Michonne and Enid run into a mysterious, new group who offer resources in the form of peaceful bartering.
