Vivien Harmon is one of the main characters featured in the FX Network television series American Horror Story. Played by actress Connie Britton, she was introduced in the program's pilot episode and appeared in every episode in season one.
Vivien Harmon is the wife of Ben Harmon, a school teacher from Boston who is having an affair with one of his students, Hayden McClaine. When Vivien, gives birth to a stillborn baby, the Harmons relocate to an old mansion in Los Angeles, California hoping to get a fresh start. While trying to heal their marriage, they discover that the renovated home they have moved into is haunted.
After being victimized by Hayden, as well as the ghosts of the home invaders, Vivien decided to leave the Murder House with Violet. Hayden continued to drive her nuts by moving things about the house unseen, breaking glass, opening and closing doors, moving furniture, etc. Vivien had Marcy come over to the house to talk about the progress on selling it to Joe Escandarian, but this was only a ruse to steal Marcy's handgun. That evening, Tate dressed up in the Rubber Man suit and accosted Vivien. She screamed out for help, but when Ben came to check on her, she shot him with the gun. Ben survived, but knew that actions had to be taken. (AHS: Rubber Man)
Ben had her committed to a hospital for psychological evaluation. Vivien thought he was doing this so he could lay claim to the house and to keep Violet close to him, as well as maintaining the ability to fool around with any woman he chose.
