Viggo Peter Mortensen, Jr. is an American actor born in Manhattan, New York on October 20th, 1958. Although Viggo has appeared in the occasional horror film, he is best known for playing the role of the heroic fantasy character Aragorn in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Viggo's first professional film work was in the 1984 television mini-series George Washington, where he played an unnamed lieutenant at LeBoeuf. Viggo's first major film appearance playing an Amish farmer in Peter Weir's Witness. His first work in the horror genre came five years later when, while still a relatively unknown actor, he played the role of Eddie "Tex" Sawyer - a member of a group of psychotic cannibals in 1990's Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III. In 1995, he played the role of the biggest bad guy of all time, Lucifer, in The Prophecy. In 1998, he played Sam Loomis in the remake of Psycho directed by Gus Van Sant. In the original Psycho the part was played by John Gavin.
