Vampire in Brooklyn is an American horror/comedy of the vampire subgenre. It was directed by horror film icon Wes Craven and written by leading actor/comedian Eddie Murphy, Charles Murphy, Vernon Lynch, Michael Lucker and Chris Parker. It was produced by Paramount Pictures and Eddie Murphy Productions and released theatrically in the United States on October 27th, 1995. The movie grossed $7,045,379 in the United States over it's opening weekend and grossed a total of $19,751,736 in the US over it's entire theatrical span. Eddie Murphy plays Maximillian, a vampire from the Caribbean who comes to the United States in search of the daughter of a vampire from his native island - a Dhampir, whom he believes possesses the key to maintaining his immortality. The film also stars Angela Bassett as Detective Rita Veder, Allen Payne as Detective Justice, Kadeem Hardison as Julius Jones and John Witherspoon as Silas Green.
