Fester Addams is a fictional weirdo and a supporting character in The Addams Family multimedia franchise. He was a major staple in the original 1964-1966 ABC television series The Addams Family, where he was played by former child actor Jackie Coogan.
The character of Fester Adams was re-imagined for the 1990s film series, where he was first played by actor Christopher Lloyd in the 1991 remake of The Addams Family and its 1993 sequel, Addams Family Values. A third film in the series, Addams Family Reunion, was released direct-to-video in 1998, only this time, the franchise brought on some major cast changes, and the role of Fester Addams was played by Patrick Thomas. The final film served as a quasi-backdoor pilot for a television series, The New Addams Family, which aired on FOX Family for two seasons from 1998 to 1999. The part of Uncle Fester was played by actor Michael Roberds.
Overview[]
Fester Addams is an eccentric member of the Addams family. He is typically presented as an overweight, stocky man in his forties with a bald head, a nasally voice and is dressed head to toe in a thick, black robe and/or coat. In the original series, he was the nephew of Gomez Addams. In the film series, he was Gomez' brother.
Appearances to the contrary, Fester is not a supernatural being. However, he did possess some inexplicable talents involving electricity and electromagnetism, the origins of which have never been revealed. He could activate a light bulb by placing it into his mouth, and he could move volumes of metal through some form of magnetism in his hands.
As once described by creator Charles Addams, "Uncle Fester is incorrigible and except for the good nature of the family and the ignorance of the police, would ordinarily be under lock and key... the eyes are pig-like and deeply embedded... he likes to fish, but usually employs dynamite... he keeps falcons on the roof which he uses for hunting... his one costume, summer and winter is a black great coat with an enormous collar... he is fat with pudgy little hands and feet".
