Tower of London is an American feature film of the historical and thriller genres. It is often erroneously regarded as a horror film, though it does have some bleak elements of horror as well as a cast that is well-known for performing in horror movies. Tower of London was directed by Rowland V. Lee, based on a script by Robert N. Lee. It was produced by Universal Pictures and released theatrically in the United States on November 17th, 1939. The film offers up a retelling of the rise and fall of Richard III, the Duke of Gloucester, and how he uses guile, cunning and the ruthlessness to weed out his opponents, so he can claim the throne of England. The movie stars Basil Rathbone as the evil Richard III, Boris Karloff as his club-footed executioner Mord, Barbara O'Neil as Queen Elyzabeth, Ian Hunter as King Edward IV, and Vincent Price as the Duke of Clarence.
