The Shining is an American television miniseries of the supernatural thriller and horror genres. Also known as Stephen King's The Shining, it is an adaptation of Stephen King's 1977 novel, also called The Shining. It could be argued that the miniseries is also a remake of the first feature film adaptation of King's story, the popular 1980 movie, The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick. However, King drew upon his own work when writing the screenplay for this film and holds little connection to the Kubrick film other than the basic premise and character names. The miniseries was directed by Mick Garris and first aired on ABC in three installments on April 27th-May 1st, 1997. It was produced by Lakeside Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The film stars Steven Weber as Jack Torrance, Rebecca De Mornay as his wife, Wendy Torrance and Courtland Mead as their son, Danny Torrance.
