The Power is an American horror film of the supernatural thriller subgenre. It was directed by Stephen Carpenter and Jeffrey Obrow and written by Carpenter, Obrow and John Hopkins based on a story by John Penney. It was produced by Film Ventures International and released in the United States on January 20th, 1984. The film stars Susan Stokey, Warren Lincoln, Lisa Erickson, Chad Christian, Ben Gilbert, Chris Morrill and Rod Mays. The premise of the movie centers on an ancient Aztec artifact that grants it's owner great power, but as with everything - great power often comes at great cost. One such reporter learns this the hard way as the evil spirit embodied within the idol takes possession of him and turns him into a hideous murderer.
