The Last House on the Left is an American horror film of the psycho-thriller subgenre. It is a remake of the 1972 film The Last House on the Left, which was directed by Wes Craven. The remake is directed by Dennis Illiadas and written by Adam Alleca and Carl Ellsworth based on Craven's original screenplay. It was produced by Rogue Pictures and released theatrically in the United States and Canada on March 13th, 2009. The film stars Garret Dillahunt, Michael Bowen, Josh Cox, Riki Lindhome, Aaron Paul, Sara Paxton, Monica Potter, Tony Goldwyn, Martha Maclsaac and Spencer Treat Clark. The premise of the film involves a group of deranged escaped convicts who torture and rape two teenage girls in the middle of the woods. One of them dies, but the other, Mari, survives and manages to escape, albeit with serious injuries. The convicts later take refuge in the home of the surviving girl's parents, not realizing who they really are. As Mari's parents learn the truth about their new house guests' identities, they take strong measures to avenge their daughter's rape.

  • Production on The Last House on the Left began on March 31st, 2008. Principal filming concluded on May 31st, 2008. The movie was shot entirely in Cape Town, South Africa. Shooting wrapped on the same day that principal photography concluded on Final Destination 4 (though the two films are otherwise unrelated). [4][5]
