The Last House on the Left is a 1972 Psycho-thriller directed by Wes Craven and released theatrically in the United States on August 30th, 1972. The plot of the film revolves around two teenage girls, Mari Collingwood and Phyllis Stone who, on their way to a rock concert in New York, fall prey to a group of vicious serial rapists. After committing their deeds, they try to drive off towards Canada, but are forced to take refuge in a family home after their car breaks down. They soon come to discover that the husband and wife who take them in are the parents of Mari Collingwood and are out for revenge. The film had problems with censorship in many countries, and was particularly controversial in the United Kingdom. The film was refused a certificate for cinema release by the BBFC in 1974 due to scenes of sadism and violence. The film was remade in 2009 by director Dennis Iliadis.
