The Hunger is a British horror film of the vampire-romance subgenre. It was directed by Tony Scott and written by Ivan Davis and Michael Thomas, based on a novel by Whitley Strieber. The film was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and released theatrically in the United States on April 29th, 1983. The film launched a spin-off television series, also called The Hunger, which aired on the Movie Network for two seasons from 1997 to 2000.
The Hunger stars Catherine Deneuve as Egyptian vampire Miriam Blaylock as well as David Bowie as John Blaylock, Susan Sarandon as Sarah Roberts and Cliff De Young as Tom Haver. Other notable cast members include Beth Ehlers, Dan Hedaya, Rufus Collins and Suzanne Bertish.
