The Brain from Planet Arous is an American science fiction film directed by Nathan Juran, based on a screenplay by Ray Buffum. It was produced by Marquette Productions, Ltd. and distributed by Howco International Pictures . It was released theatrically in the United States on October 1st, 1957. The film stars John Agar as Steve March - a man who finds himself possessed by the disembodied brain of an extraterrestrial conqueror known as Gor. Through Steve, Gor attempts to take control of the world's major cities. Fortunately for Steve, a more benevolent alien brain, Val, befriends his iancé, Sally Fallon, and helps her to discover Gor's weaknesses.
Director Nathan Juran is credited as Nathan Hertz in this film. Hertz is Juran's middle name.
The tagline for this film is, "It will steal your body and damn your soul!"
The Brain from the Planet Arous has been referenced in the 1988 sci-fi/horror film Critters 2.
Parts of the movie were filmed at the Bronson Caves in Bronson Canyon, Los Angeles, California.
The Brain from Planet Arous was re-released in 1958 and double-billed with Monster from Green Hell.
The special eye effects for Steve March were created by having John Agar wear specially made, thick, black contact. The extreme thickness of the contact made it very painful for Agar to wear them. [1]
