Biography[]

Ted Reyerson was a single man in his forties or fifties who lived in the town of Annville, Texas. He was an emotionally disturbed individual, who believed that he had existed under the oppressive yoke of his mother. Ted constantly sought advice from the town preacher Jesse Custer, who had little in the way of helping words other than to encourage him to step up for himself.

An incident occurred wherein Jesse gained the ability to mentally force people to obey his commands. When Ted came up to again with his problems, Jesse inadvertently put his power to use, telling Ted to confront his mother on the issue. He used the words, "Be brave. Tell the truth. Open your heart". This became Ted's mantra as he followed Jesse's instruction to its most literal conclusion.

Ted booked a flight to see his mother at an assisted living facility, all the while repeating the words that the preacher had said to him, "Be brave. Tell the truth. Open your heart". Addressing his mother, he confessed his concerns, then used a cake knife to cut open his chest and pull out his own heart.
