A skunk ape is the name attributed to a particular type of cryptid. It is similar to a Sasquatch in terms of physical appearance, but is so named because it allegedly produces a particularly foul scent. Skunk apes appear in local urban legends in the southeastern United State s, and there have been reported sightings in Alabama and Florida.
The 2003 Grindhouse horror film House of 1000 Corpses presented a found footage video of an unidentified man and woman who claim to have seen a skunk ape. They are identified in the film as "skunk ape husband" and "skunk ape wife". They are played by actors Ken Johnson and Judith Drake respectively. In the film, the character of Denise Willis has a dream about the skunk ape husband and wife.
