Prophecy is an American horror film of the Biblical subgenre. It was written and directed by Gregory Widen and produced by Dimension Films, First Look Pictures, Neo Motion Pictures and the Overseas FilmGroup. It was released theatrically in the United States on September 1st, 1995. The movie stars Christopher Walken as the Archangel Gabriel, Elias Koteas as police detective Thomas Daggett, Eric Stoltz as an angel named Simon and Virginia Madsen as a schoolteacher named Katherine. The premise behind the film focuses on an ancient, lost prophecy regarding a second war in heaven. Los Angeles police detective, Thomas Daggett, a lapsed Catholic, begins having visions of the war and is visited by an angel named Simon. Simon tries to help Thomas reaffirm his faith, but a darker presence looms on the horizon; The Archangel Gabriel seeks the soul of a Korean war veteran named Hawthorne, believing that it will help to tip the scales in the coming Angel civil war.
