Oliver Reed was a British film actor born in Wimbledon, London, England on February 13th, 1937. His first work in the horror genre was an uncredited bit role as a bouncer in the 1960 Terence Fisher film The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll for Hammer Film Productions. Reed worked for Hammer again the following year, in a much larger role in Fisher's The Curse of the Werewolf where he played one of the main characters, Leon Corledo. In 1962, Oliver appeared in his third Hammer film, Night Creatures as Harry Cobtree. His final Hammer Horror film was Paranoiac where he played a character named Simon Ashby. Reed's next work in the genre wasn't until 1976 when he played Ben Rolf in Dan Curtis's Burnt Offerings. In 1979 he appeared in David Cronenberg's The Brood as Doctor Hal Raglan and in 1981 he played Dave Averconnelly in the killer snake movie Venom. In 1989 he took the lead part of Roderick Usher in the Edgar Allan Poe-inspired film The House of Usher and followed this up in 1991 with another Poe-based project, The Pit and the Pendulum where he played a Cardinal. Reed's final work in the horror genre was Severed Ties in 1992 where he played Doctor Hans Vaughan. Oliver Reed passed away in Valletta, Malta on May 2nd, 1999 at the age of 62.
