Mordecai Grimes was a minor recurring character featured on the 1960s Gothic soap opera series Dark Shadows. He was played by actor Thayer David and was part of a storyline colloquially referred to as the "1840 Flashback". He first appeared in episode 1154/1155 in November, 1970 and made two appearances in the series in total. His final appearance was in episode 1184.
Mordecai Grimes was a cattle farmer who lived in and/or around the area of Collinsport, Maine during the early to mid 19th century. He was the father of Jeremy Grimes and Mildred Ward. In 1840, Grimes' livestock perished under mysterious circumstances. He was convinced that the cause was witchcraft. He accused Quentin Collins of being a warlock and killing his cattle. Grimes was set to testify against Quentin at his trial, but was killed by the Shadow of Death generated by Gerard Stiles (who was possessed by the spirit of warlock Judah Zachary at the time).
