"Mimic" is a short story written by science fiction author Donald A. Wollheim. It was published in 100 Creepy Little Creature Stories and was the basis for the 1997 film Mimic, directed by Guillermo del Toro. The story presents a speculative look at entymology and shows how insects have grown and evolved to live alongside mankind. The film differs greatly from the story in that it presents the "mimic" creatures as monstrous shape-shifters who were created through neglectful and irresponsible scientific practices and genetic engineering.
