Mari Asato is a Japanese film director, screenwriter and actress. Her first film work was the 2004 horror movie Sodom the Killer where she worked as an assistant director and starred in the film, receiving second billing. Mari made her directorial debut that same year with The Boy from Hell, known in Japan as Jigoku kozô. In 2008 she directed Towairaito shindorômu: Deddo gôrando || 2008 and in 2009 she directed Ju-on: Black Ghost, the second of two hour-long specials commemorating the ten year anniversary of Takashi Shimizu's ghostly cult thriller Ju-on. She followed this up in 2010 with X gêmu, or X Game, and in 2011 she directed Keitai kanojo and Gomennasai.
