Career Edit

The Ali brothers' first work was a 1984 documentary called Dealers in Death, which was directed by John McNaughton. Afterward, they offered McNaughton $100,000 to direct a horror film. Inspired by a 20/20 special regarding serial killer Henry Lee Lucas, McNaughton put together a movie loosely based on Lucas' actions entitled Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. The film was completed in 1986, but the Ali brothers were not particularly impressed with it, fearing that it would not generate sufficient revenue as a theatrically released feature. They held onto it until 1989, but the movie has since gone on to earn cult status among viewers. The movie even spawned a sequel in 1996, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Part 2, but McNaughton did not return to write and direct this installment, leaving that chore to noted "true crime" filmmaker Chuck Parello.

In 2008, the Alis produced Plague Town, which was written and directed by David Gregory. The film involves an American family who is set upon by a horde of mutated, bloodthirsty children. They followed this up with The House of the Devil in 2009 - an underground occult film directed by Ti West that gained a small measure of notoriety for it's wink to 1980s horror.

In 2010, Malik B. Ali was an executive producer on Joe Maggio's Bitter Feast starring James LeGros, Joshua Leonard and Amy Seimetz. This was followed by Adam Green's popular independent sequel film Hatchet II as well as Jim Mickle's Stake Land.

2011 saw the premiere of The Innkeepers, which was also written and directed by Ti West and produced by Malik B. Ali. This was followed up in 2012 with the World War II-era reanimated corpse film Frankenstein's Army.
