Lois Smith is a film and television actress. She was born Lois Arlene Humbert in Topeka, Kansas on November 3rd, 1930. To modern audiences, Lois is best known for playing the role of Adele "Gran" Stackhouse on the HBO television series True Blood. Lois' earliest work in the horror genre was playing a character named Sara on the "Proxy" episode of season seven of the UK anthology series Tales of the Unexpected.
On True Blood, she was a recurring character throughout season one and was introduced in the show's pilot episode "Strange Love". She made three more regular appearances until the character was killed off in "Sparks Fly Out". She made a brief appearance in the subsequent episode, "Cold Ground" as a corpse and also appeared in a flashback scene in the season finale, "You'll Be the Death of Me".
Lois made two cameo appearances in season four of the series. In "Me and the Devil", Lois provided the disembodied voice of the spirit of Adele Stackhouse and in the season finale, "And When I Die", she appeared as one of several apparitions, momentarily brought back from the grave to help the protagonists of the show.
