John Saxon is an American actor of Italian descent born in Brooklyn, New York on August 5th, 1935. His early film career consisted of playing a variety of roles, primarily Westerns, but his first horror film role was playing Doctor Marcello Bassi in Mario Bava's 1963 thriller The Evil Eye. As Saxon's career grew, he became known as a character actor, often playing authority figures such as police or military officers. In 1974, he played police detective Lieutenant Fuller in the holiday slasher film Black Christmas (also known as Silent Night, Evil Night). In 1984, Saxon was immortalized in horror film history playing the part of police chief Donald Thompson in the Wes Craven movie A Nightmare on Elm Street. Saxon reprised the role for the third installment in the series, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and even played himself in the sixth sequel Wes Craven's New Nightmare.
