Joseph "Joe" Turkel is an American film and television actor. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 15th, 1927. Joe was primarily active from the 1950s through the 1990s. His first work on the horror genre was playing the bartender, Lloyd in Stanley Kubrick's 1980 adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining. In 1985, Joe played a character named Kharma in the "Levitation" episode of the horror anthology series Tales from the Darkside. This was Turkel's final work in the horror genre and one of his last television roles.

  • In addition to The Shining, Joe Turkel also appeared in two other films directed by Stanley Kubrick. He played Tiny in The Killing in 1956 and Private Pierre Arnaud in Paths of Glory in 1957.
  • Joe Turkel is also known for playing Doctor Eldon Tyrell in the 1982 science fiction film Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford.
