Kyphosis: The condition of having a "hunchback" is actually called Kyphosis, a curvature of the upper thoracic spine. It can be either the result of degenerative diseases such as arthritis, developmental problems, osteoporosis with compression fractures of the vertebrae, and/or trauma.

Those suffering from Kyphosis feature prominently in the horror genre, particularly the 1923 film The Hunchback of Notre Dame in the form of Quasimodo. Hunchbacked characters also play important roles in the Frankenstein mythos including characters such as Fritz, Karl, Ygor and Eye-Gor.
