Henry was a gay middle-aged man living in New York City in the early 1980s. He was a hitman for the mob who assisted a man named Sam with covering up an accidental death that took place on Fire Island in 1979. In 1981, Henry frequented the Brownstone Bar, where he met Gino Barelli - a reporter for a gay advocacy newspaper called The Downtown Native. Henry's interactions with Gino got him involved in the affairs of a serial killer dubbed The Mai Tai Killer, who had been targeting gay men in the New York City area. This upset Henry's mob employer, Angelo DeMarco, who saw Gino's published stories about the Mai Tai Killer to be disruptive to their business interests, and wanted Henry to take him out.

Henry was an African American male who grew up as part of a society of demon hunters known as The Blood. Henry left the lifestyle at a young age to pursue his own fortunes, but when his younger brother became possessed by a demon, Henry was unable to save him. This caused him to return to his family's roots as an agent of The Blood. Years later, Henry entered into a pact with Doctor Louise Hastings of the Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health in Portland, Oregon. One of Louise's patients, Victoria Helstrom, had left behind two children; Ana and Daimon. Both of whom were the progeny of demonic serial killer and had developed supernatural powers. While Louise decided to look after Daimon, Henry agreed to become the caretaker to Ana. Henry spent the next several years steering The Blood away from taking an interest in Ana.

Henry was a young child who was born only a few years prior to the fall of society as a result of a zombie apocalypse]]. He was the younger brother of a teenage boy named Benjamin and resided at a community known as the Kingdom in the U.S. state of Virginia.

Henry and Benjamin were very close, and Benjamin took measures to improve his survival instincts for the sake of being able to protect Henry. Unfortunately, Benjamin died after being shot by a member of the Saviors named Jared.
