Nursery rhyme

A nursery rhyme is a rhyming song often used to lull children into sleeping, hence the term "Lullabies". The innocence of a nursery rhyme is often used in stark contrast to the dark intensity of horror films, sometimes adding to the atmospheric tenor of a film with a symbolic resonance of corrupted youth. In the horror genre, the most famous nursery rhyme is found in the A Nightmare on Elm Street films, the lyrics of which are:

One, two
Freddy's coming for you
Three, four
Better lock your door
Five, six
Grab your crucifix
Seven, eight
Going to stay up late
Nine, ten
Never sleep again
