Levitation is the process is by which an object is suspended by a physical force against gravity, in a stable position without solid physical contact. In horror fiction, this effect is often mystical in nature and may be possessed by any number of supernatural entities. Magic users are the most common of such groups to employ the use of levitation. In recent years, vampires have been shown to possess the power of levitation, some of whom can outright fly. This ability was gradually added to the vampire's repertoire of powers ever since the idea of a vampire transforming into a bat was no longer considered palatable to movie watchers or readers. The height, duration and conditions under which an individual can levitate their body varies. Some may also possess the ability to cause other objects to levitate, which is actually a form of psychic power called Telekinesis.

Lycanthropy is a mental disorder wherein a human being imagines that he or she is a werewolf. In many cases however, the subject is actually acurate in their assessment and they do in fact transform into a wolf-like creature under certain predetermined conditions. Those who suffer from Lycanthropy are often referred to as Lycanthropes. While most Lycanthropes assume the physical characteristics of a wolf, others only develop behaviorial aspects of an animal. A textbook definition for Lycanthropy was provided in the opening credits of the 1941 film The Wolf Man. The werewolves featured in the Underworld franchise, known as Lycans, take their name from this word.

A lynch mob is a gathering of civilians who band together for the express purpose of hunting down and executing a specific individual, usually through hanging. This social practice, though justified by some, is a form of murder and is illegal in most civilized nations. In horror fiction, lynch mobs are often formed for the purposes of tracking down and destroying a monster that has been known to threaten their community. Lynch mobs traditionally arm themselves with meager, unsophisticated equipment consisting of lit torches, rifles, pitchforks and other farming equipment. The Frankenstein Monster has found himself on the run from lynch mobs on many occasions.
