Brimstone is an alternate name for sulfur and refers to the idiomatic expression of God's Wrath in Judeo-Christian theology. It is often used in conjunction with the natural element of fire ala, "Fire and Brimstone". In Genesis 19, God destroys Sodom and Gomorrah via a rain of fire and brimstone, and in Deuteronomy 29, the Israelites are threatened with the same punishment should they abandon their covenant with God. The phrase was also used as the title to a short-lived supernaturally-themed television series that aired on the Fox Network from October, 1998 to February, 1999.
