Glenn Strange was an American actor who was born in Weed, New Mexico on August 16th, 1899. Although he is best known for playing extras in Westerns, Strange is also known for being one of several successors to the role of the Frankenstein Monster in the classic Universal Pictures films of the 1940s. Although his portrayal of the monster is not as memorable as that of original actor Boris Karloff, Strange adequately played the monster in three provincial films, 1944's House of Frankenstein, 1945's House of Dracula and the 1948 comedy Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.

Glenn Strange passed away in Los Angeles, California on September 20th, 1973.

  • Glenn Strange is the last actor to portray the classic "Universal Monsters" version of the Frankenstein Monster.
  • Of the three times that Strange has played the Frankenstein Monster, only one of the films, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein does the monster actually speak. He intones a single word at multiple points throughout the film, "Master".
  • Glenn Strange was 6'5" tall, the same height as Fred Gwynne, who also played a "Frankensteinian" character who wore elevator boots, Herman Munster.
