George Lee Lutz was a homeowner who is best known for residing at the Dutch Colonial house at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, Long Island from a period of twenty-eight days. During this time, Lutz claimed to have been victimized by paranormal phenomena. George's account of these events formed the basis of Jay Anson's book, The Amityville Horror, which was later adapted into a feature film in 1979. George Lutz was played by actor James Brolin in the film. The character was re-imagined for the 2005 remake of The Amityville Horror, this time played by actor Ryan Reynolds. The real George Lutz always upheld to the notion that everything he ever stated about his time at 112 Ocean Avenue was true, even though details of his accounts have varied over the years. His former wife Kathy, and his stepson Christopher Quaratino have contradicted George's statements and the stories relating to their time spent at the house has largely been debunked. George Lutz died of heart failure in Julian, California on May 8th, 2006 at the age of 59.
