Gary Brandner is an American novelist best known for writing The Howling trilogy of novels. Brandner's works involve werewolves and have been loosely adapted into a series of feature films. Brandner's first Howling novel, published by Fawcett Publications in 1977, bears little resemblence to the 1981 Joe Dante adaptation of the The Howling and is actually closer in theme to the fourth film in the series, The Howling IV: The Original Nightmare. Brandner also wrote the novelization to the 1982 film Cat People. In addition to his novels, Brandner has also written several screenplays, including the treatment for the 1988 horror film Cameron's Closet. Another Brandner novel, Walkers, was adapted into a television movie entitled From the Dead of Night.
