Francis Lawrence is a film and music video director. He was born in Vienna, Austria on March 26th, 1971. His early work included music videos and documentary specials for popular artists such as Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears.

In 2005, Lawrence directed the film Constantine, which was based on a comic book series by DC Comics and featured an occult investigator named John Constantine. The film starred actor Keanu Reeves in the title role of Constantine, re-imagining the Liverpool character as an American operating in Los Angeles, California.

In 2007, Francis adapted Richard Matheson's I Am Legend for the big screen, featuring Will Smith in the role of sympathetic hero John Neville. Other film adaptations of Matheson's story include the 1964 film The Last Man on Earth starring Vincent Price and The Omega Man starring Charlton Heston. The story revolves around a dystopic future where a scientist named John Neville struggles to survive in a world that has been taken over by vampire-like creatures.
