Mrs. Sarah Johnson is a fictional housekeeper and a supporting character in the 1970 American horror film House of Dark Shadows. She is based on the character of Sarah Johnson seen in the original 1960s daytime Gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows. The character is played by actress Barbara Cason.
Biography[]
Mrs. Sarah Johnson was the cook and housekeeper of the Collinwood estate in Collinsport, Maine in 1970. Like many of Collinwood's employees, Mrs Johnson lived on the estate. An employee of family matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, she was the one who first allowed the vampire, Barnabas Collins access to their home.
Mrs. Johnson later discovered the dead body of Elizabeth's daughter, Carolyn Stoddard propped up against a wall in the foyer of the house. [1]

- The character of Carolyn Stoddard was created by director Dan Curtis and writers Sam Hall and Gordon Russell.
- Classically, the role of Sarah Johnson was played by actress Clarice Blackburn, who was not available to play in House of Dark Shadows. Blackburn did participate in the film's 1971 sequel however, Night of Dark Shadows, where she played a similar character, Mrs. Drake.
- Actress Barbara Cason is also known for playing the role of Mrs. Phalor in the 1977 horror movie Exorcist II: The Heretic.
