The Buffybot is a fictional robot and a minor recurring character featured on the WB Network television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Portrayed by actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, it first appeared in the eighteenth episode of season five, "Intervention".
Biography[]
The Buffybot, also referred to as "Robo-Buffy", was a gynoid robot created by Warren Meers on behalf of the vampire, Spike. It was forged in the likeness of Buffy Summers and was an exact duplicate of her, even right down to her voice patterns. Spike commissioned the construction of the robot for use as a sex toy. As such, she was programmed to be completely in love with him and obey his every command.
The Buffybot occasionally ventured outside of Spike's crypt where it was confused with the real Buffy Summers. Mimicking all of Buffy's moves, it went out on patrol with Xander Harris and Anya Jenkins. The two were astonished when they later found "Buffy" having sex with Spike in the cemetery. They believed that Buffy was acting out as a means of dealing with her grief over the recent loss of her mother.
The real Buffy Summers died soon after in order to stop Glorificus from opening a Hell portal. The Scoobies made use of the Buffybot so that the supernatural underworld elements would not learn the Slayer had been killed. This tactic worked for a little while, until a demon biker gang showed up and learned the truth about Buffy. They attacked the Buffybot and destroyed it by rendering it limb from limb with chains attached to their bikes.

- The character of Buffybot was created by director Michael Gershman and writer Jane Espenson based on concepts originally developed by Joss Whedon.
- The Buffybot is the third character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar. In addition to playing Buffy Summers, she also played Faith Lehane in season three when the two characters had their minds swapped into each other's bodies.
- The origins of the Buffybot go as far back as episode 5x03, "The Replacement", when Spike toys with a mannequin head that reminds him of Buffy.
- One notable distinction between the Buffybot and the real Buffy is that the Buffybot always mis-pronounced Rupert Giles' last name. She always pronounced it with a hard G.
- The Buffybot is the second robot featured on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The first was Ted Buchanan from the season two episode "Ted".
