"Anne" is the first episode of season three of the American television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and is the thirty-fifth episode of the series overall. The episode was written and directed by series creator Joss Whedon and first aired on the WB Network on Tuesday, September 29th, 1998. In this episode, Buffy Summers decides to give up slaying for good and leaves Sunnydale. In her absence, the Scoobies try their level best at keeping the town safe from vampires, but quickly learn that their vampire slaying skills leave much to be desired. In Los Angeles, Buffy, under an alias, finds work as a waitress at a diner. She comes upon street waif Lily Houston, whom she remembers from her past as wannabe-vampire Chanterelle. It doesn't take long before Buffy realizes that the life she is trying so desperately to leave behind simply won't let her go.
